What works for you

Our Mission

At Wiki K12, we want to help educators understand how Wikipedia can be a useful resource and empower students by turning them into Wikipedians -- the editors of Wikipedia. Understanding how to consume content from Wikipedia and learning how to contribute to this global resource are skills students will utilize long after leaving your classroom.

A learning partnership

In an effort to build a lasting relationship, prior to starting your unit we would like to discuss your goals, timeline and class structure.  This will help us to customize the unit to best suit your needs.  For all three options listed below, we will provide a unit overview and daily lesson plans.  At this stage, we are very much learning how best to support our customers and working closely with you during the planning phase is the best way for this be be accomplished.  That said, web and hardcopy units are yours for no charge.  We are using this period to grow and to learn.

Who we help

At this point, we would like to aim for middle school Librarians, middle & high school English and Social Studies teachers, Foreign Language teachers and any life skills teachers.  There are a number of topics upon which your students can focus, however, let's remember that in terms of content depth, existing articles will most likely be beyond most high school students subject mastery.  Not to worry! There are plenty of ways we can add value to Wikipedia and train your students to become true Wikipedians.

Web

The web option is best suited for libraries, 1:1 deployments and schools with easy access to a computer lab.  These self-paced lessons will guide the student through using Wikipedia and then how to edit articles, accessible from school and home.

Hardcopy

Outcomes will be the same as the web-based lessons, but work for classrooms with limited computer access and/or slower connection speeds.  Schools with tablet deployments and small screen laptop deployments will also benefit from this lesson structure.

Face to Face

With the F2F option, a trainer will come onsite for either train-the-teacher session and/or team teach the lesson with the teacher.  There are many variables to consider, and we can sort these out with a planning call.  With this option, there will be a daily rate as well as travel expenses.  Materials will be provided free of charge, as well as access to the web and/or hardcopy content.
